HYDROTHERAPY

Hydrotherapy, is a part of naturopathy, that involves the use of water for pain relief and treatment of different conditions, including joint pain and related rheumatic complaints. It encompasses a broad range of approaches and therapeutic methods that take advantage of the physical properties of water, such as temperature and pressure, to stimulate blood circulation and treat the symptoms of certain diseases.

Water is used for treatment of various diseases as it has many therapeutic qualities. Moreover, 70% of human body is made up of water, as it is present in the form of blood and other body fluids. Hence there is no life without water.

Effects obtained by treatment with water are stimulant, sedative, tonic diuretic, emetic, antipyretic, expectorant, antispasmodic etc.

GIVEN BELOW IS A BRIEF EXPLANATION OF VARIOUS PROCEDURES OF HYDROTHERAPY :

Hip Bath

Person is made to sit in a small tub filled with water where his/her whole abdomen comes in contact with water, which influences all the abdominal organs and is helpful in treatment of ailments related to digestive system like Dyspepsia, Indigestion, Constipation, Gas formation etc.

Spinal Bath

Spinal bath tub is designed in such a way that water comes in Contact with whole spine and its surrounding area. Spinal Bath is given in case of High Blood Pressere, Insomnia, Tiredness and Nervous Weakness.

Immersion Bath

In this type of hydrotherapic treatment whole body is immersed inside the water with only the head remaining outside. Immersion bath can be modified by giving friction during the bath or by adding some salts having analgesic effect like MgSO4 or NaCl2, to give fast relief in painful conditions. It increases blood circulation all over the body and enhances activity, there by helping in elimination of toxins.

Jacuzzi

This treatment is similar to immersion bath, but in Jacuzzi, pressure is forced inside the water during bath. In the special Jacuzzi Tub, various points are made from where water is thrown out with force inside the tub. This force of water gives pressure to different body parts, there by increasing therapeutic effect of water. It gives pure water supply to all body part for relief from congestion.

Spinal Spray

For Spinal Spray, bath tub has a metal rod provided with small pores in it. The patient lies down on his back in such a way that water spreads out on whole of his spine with equal amount of pressure. This stimulates the nervous system, and is effective in case of Nervous irritability, Hemiplegia, Neurasthenia, Back Pain etc.

Arms And Foot Bath

In this treatment arms and feet are placed inside water, and the temperature of water is varied. This treatment is helpul in case of Headache, Asthma, Sinusitis, Migraine etc.

Steam Bath

In Steam Bath, moist heat is passed to all body parts, which stimulates glandular activity, increases blood circulation, and opens up the skin pores, thus helping in elimination of toxins.

Sauna Bath

In Sauna Bath dry heat is passed which results in the blood vessels becoming more flexible and there is increased blood circulation. During a sauna bath, blood flow to the skin increases to as high as 50-70% of cardiac output (compared to the standard 5-10%). The dry heat may cause suffocation and skin irritation, hence it should be avoided in weak and old people, pregnant women, as well as those suffering from heart disease
